Part 1

Chronicles of the Oni

War has swiped the world fields...
The scent of blood and destruction can still be smelled by those who pass by the ancient battlefields of the greatest war the human kind has ever seen… even though, it all ended ten years ago.

Rising Doom

It all started a long time ago, in a time where peace was no longer ruling the lives of the shinobi. The secret organization of Akatsuki was a menace to every single village and even for some countries, which had relied on these villages to solve their problems.
However, and although they were in danger, most village's didn't see it.
As the Akatsuki came to take the Jinchuurikis away to remove their powerful beast, the villages didn't care. They saw the Akatsuki as saviours, destroyers of everything that could remind them of the tragedies that the bijuus had make them suffer... fools.
Little did they know that the Akatsuki didn't want to destroy evil from earth. They were evil itself, and they wanted to be a replacement to the villages, an alternative for the Feudal Lords, as an ultimate Shinobi army, with unlimited power. Unfortunately for the villages... they were successful.

War struck down into the earth! Using the power of the bijuus, the Akatsuki members destroyed the smaller villages and opposing nations one by one, leaving nothing behind, but a pile of burning pieces of things that once were part of a village, a community. Few were the ones, who living in small and weak villages, had a chance of surviving this first 9 years of pure violence and destruction.
The final village to fall in this first 9 years, the so called "Years of the Rising Doom", was the village of Sound, Otogakure. Although being a decadent village, they managed to resist longer than the others. However, no resistance was enough to the powers of the Akatsuki army, which had about one hundred more followers by now.

And what about the five main countries and their shinobi villages? They did nothing. There was no interest in helping other weak and powerless countries. They were competition with politics and economy, "Let them burn!" some even said.

After that last conquest, the war stopped, at least for awhile. A year after, the empowered and richer Akatsuki organization turned to the five main villages. Supported by greedy feudal lords and it's armies, the Akatsuki now had an army of ten thousand soldiers, two hundred ninjas, mainly missing nins or members of former villages destroyed by the first 9 years, which out of fear, joined their enemy to stay alive, and the main 9 members, each one with its own bijuu.

Fall of Sunagakure

The first attack to one of the five main countries was in the Wind country. First, they took control over the Feudal Lord, after a battle which lasted 2 days, without the presence of any ninja. Unlike other Feudal Lords, he didn’t want a victory from Akatsuki, due to the fact that, if the other villages were destroyed, the Feudal Lord of Wind would have no chance but to rely on them to solve his problems. And he was not the type of man who liked not being in full control, neither were the Akatsuki.

Only the army supporting the organization was enough to persuade the coward Feudal Lord of that great country, and make him help them complete their next goal: the destruction of Sunagakure.
It was their first choice due to the reduced number of ninjas, result of the laws imposed by that same feudal lord. Once again, destiny tends to be quite ironic.

However this was not as easy as it would seem. Knowing well the terrain, the few but strong Suna ninjas managed to make most of the war outside their village, acting like real shinobi, striking at the middle of the night quickly and stealthy, sometimes even using their sand abilities to burry alive dozens of man at once. 6 years of struggle took the battle to another hand. The Akatsuki Nine, tired of waiting for a victory against Suna, decided it was time to act.

In the night, two months before the war against Suna made its seventh anniversary, an Akatsuki member by the name of Hioshi, managed to sneak into the village, killing a dozen of guards.
He was intercepted by a couple of Anbu and by the Kazekage, a powerful shinobi, feared by his wind and sand jutsus. So far, he had been responsible for the failure of the Akatsuki on conquering Suna.
They fought for awhile, in a match on which both Anbu soldiers died quickly at the hands of Hioshi. Sand and wind were the weapons used by both Kazekage and Akatsuki member. Due to that fact, the fight was equally matched, with no victory on sight for both sides. Hioshi smiled, as he unleashed the true and only Ichibi no Shukaku inside the village itself.
There was nothing the Kazekage could do, but to run, run with the surviving ninjas who could still walk, and assist to the destruction of the village they loved and protected for so long.
That night, Sunagakure was literally hidden in the sand, buried in the thing that had protected it for eternity.

Akatsuki’s Rising Power

After Suna’s fall, the Akatsuki stopped their invasion over the other countries, enjoying a period of joy and glory for that great victory over one of the main villages.
They made a base on the Wind country, which was now in their full control. Receiving support from one of the five main countries and from several other smaller countries, the Akatsuki’s power raised every day, training new ninjas, and empowering their military position.
Seven more years have passed, on which occasional battles occurred between the remaining villages and the army of ninjas that the Akatsuki managed to gather, most of them out of fear.
On the other hand, the remaining villages were weakened, with a series of high ninjas killed and the missions that become less and less each day.

In the eight year of their rising power, the Akatsuki thought it would be time to finish the other villages once and for all.
The perfect target would be obviously Konoha. It was the greatest village of other and if Konoha felled, so would the other villages in another year or two. But Konoha was too powerful to fall quickly. Even with Bijuus the Akatsuki knew that they couldn’t rely much in a quick and supreme victory. They knew that many man would die, not that that would be a problem, but the armies could suffer great losses and then they would have to wait more, probably another 10 years.
No. The Akatsuki were tired of waiting. They waited in secret for too long in the pass, now was the time to take more action!

The solution was simple: destroy Iwagakure. It was the closest village, next to Konoha, and if influenced, the power from the Feudal Lord of the Earth Country could be just what they needed to regain the numbers quickly.

Rock and Mist

The Iwa Shinobi stood, as they faced a Samurai army, one year lately, a gift from the Feudal Lords supporting the Akatsuki and in the frontlines, a hundred of shinobi were taking command. As if this wasn’t enough, two other Akatsuki members, Zenu and Orojan, were ready, with the mission of killing the Tsuchikage themselves. The army started to march, moving towards Iwa’s gates.
However, something happened in the back lines. A thick mist involved the air, at the same time as samurai soldiers started to get killed unnoticed.

Half of the army turned back, to face the unknown and new danger that had flanked them. A huge blade appeared from the mist, cutting the head of one of the soldiers and an evil looking ninja appeared, behind the blade, smiling while staring at that new terror and shock that had involved the soldiers, right before the mist moved once more, covering him again, among with another half of the Akatsuki’s army.

Trapped between two different enemy fronts, this was no position for any army to be in and an order was given to split the army in two fronts, one half for each side.
This had been the opening the Iwa Shinobi were waiting for. Having the surprise element on their side, they used their rock jutsus, throwing huge rocks at the incoming half and crushing more than half of the already split soldiers, and even some careless Akatsuki ninja.

After that, the Akatsuki shinobi, along with the two Akatsuki members present at the scene, managed to get in the village, trying to counter the attack and slay as much enemies as they could. They found an empty village, with no guards or citizens.
At the same time, the mist from behind slowly disappeared, revealing countless bodies.
As the remaining and wounded army regrouped to destroy the remains of the deserted Iwa, Orojan found a shinobi body, back in the place were the mist had formed. The shinobi had the Kirigakure’s forehead protector.

Part 2

A Clouded Destiny for the Akatsuki

The armies supporting of the Feudal Lords the Akatsuki had suffer great loss. More than a half of the soldiers had been slain in the unsuccessful mission of conquering Iwa. They had destroyed most of the village, but its true identity was its shinobi, which escaped to an unknown place. And if Iwa ninjas were alive and well hidden, this could mean more difficulties.

The problems didn’t stop here. Unfortunately for the Akatsuki, many of the capitals of small countries in the East, home of Feudal Lords supporting them, surrendered to the armies of shinobi from Kumogakure, one of the most military connected hidden village. As a result, the incoming additional soldiers and gold that the Akatsuki received since their early conquests stopped, leaving them even more weakened than before.

With their armies reduced, and the possibility of a quick reconstitution of it, the Akatsuki were in a serious position. There was only one thing to do now, and it had to be as quickly as possible.

The Akatsuki Curse

After the defeat of so many Feudal Lords, the few ones remaining started to be afraid of the outcome of this war. In fact, they were so uncertain of it, that they refused to give any more support to the Akatsuki unless they proved they could stand for themselves without the helps of their weaker, but many soldiers.
The Akatsuki had no option, but to do as the feudal lords asked them. They could easily kill the feudal lords, but this would result in a revolution scenario among the subordinates, that along with the menace of the four remaining villages could mean their ultimate destruction.

As such, they had no other chance but to rely on the thing that gave them power in the first place: the Bijuus.
However, there it was a dangerous move, due to the reason that made the Akatsuki use the samurai armies in the first place. They had found that controlling the bijuus was a bit more difficult than they would expect. They killed many subordinates in the early days of war, due to their excessive and irrational fury attacks, result of Bijuu influence. They also found out that, the more they used them, the more they took control over them.

But now there was no other way out. Once more, they had to use their powers, risking the integrity of the organization.
A month after, 9 Akatsuki members prepared to destroy Konoha, the main wall in their golden road.
One hour later, the invasion started slowly and stealthy, one ninja killed at the time, avoiding an alert. However, and as soon they got close enough to the Hokage’s mansion, the heart of the village, they unleashed their powers, every single one of them.

A bloody and extremely violent fight began. Even the strongest Konoha ninjas didn’t stand to long against such terrible and evil power. Finally, two people appeared. The Hokage, a beautiful woman, feared by her secret and elegant genjutsus, and the Kazekage, the man who nine years before, was forced to leave his village behind, founding refuge in the ally village of Konoha.

The two fought against the nine, and incredibly, their skills combined were an incredible match to the Akatsuki. But this is no happy story, and as such, something horrible happened.
Due to the long battle and to the extender use of bijuu chakra and powers, the Akatsuki nine flesh and bones were consumed as each one of the bijuus, enraged by such humiliation, released themselves from their prison bodies.

Ironically, the Akatsuki ultimate power was also their final destruction. However, this was not a good thing.
The Akatsuki were dead, but the scenario was of pure terror for any man still able to think properly, although after that many couldn’t be considered sane anymore. The simple view of the 9 and fully unleashed and independent bijuus made the skies tremble.

The Beginning of the End

The day that the Akatsuki perished, was also the day that both Hokage and Kazekage died.
A destructive Houkou was the first to see them, and killed them quickly with a destructive attack, that destroyed the whole Hokage’s mansion, and some other buildings around.
Fortunately for most of the remaining people, the bijuus found no interest in them leaving them some time to run away, as the beasts found there a chance to battle each other, letting the rage of old rivalries get in the way of everything else.

The colossal battle took several years to end, in which, not only Konoha, but also other villages, small populations and even capitals of the Feudal Lords were destroyed in their path.
Finally, seventeen years latter, the battle was over. The damages were huge, as the earth was filled with ashes and scars.
Kyuubi, the king of all bijuus, was found to be the winner. After that, the bijuus scatter throw the land, destroying everything on their passage, and making earth a living hell.

However, a small light of hope could be seen.

Rage of the Nine Divinations

For the first time ever, the five main shinobi villages got together for a single purpose: finding a way to destroy the bijuus.
Of course, the mere thought was ridiculous. How could they destroy the bijuus if even the bijuus themselves couldn’t destroy each other?
The solution came from the Raikage, an old and wise man who had read all the ancient scrolls about divinity and demons. The only way for them to manage to get rid of the bijuus, was to seal them. He spoke of a time, were the bijuus roamed in the lands until a day, they suddenly disappeared, due simply to a jutsu.

The principles of the jutsu were the same the villages used to create jinchuurikis, although this was a different situation, where the bijuus were free and not sealed in some sacred object or in a form of a spirit. The details, essential to the success of the jutsu were unknown.
The wisest men thought for days and nights, planning ways and suggesting solutions. Finally, one year latter, they were succeeding on creating the perfect jutsu, probably the exact same thing that was used in the past for the same purpose.
The jutsu was called “Rage of the Nine Divinations”, making a comparison to the nine bijuus, seen as demons by many.

Altar of Divination

Roukubi no Raijuu was facing Ikazu Shun, the man with the mission of sealing it into the Stone of Thunder, a specific object for the sealing of this particular bijuu.

Raijuu attacked Shun with a strong lightning attack. But it was useless. The power of the Stone of Thunder nullified the attack in seconds. This was his opportunity. He knew he would never see his family again, except in heaven, for that he was going to give his own life for the sake of his loved ones.
He performed the hand seals and the bijuu was immediately paralysed. Then the final and specific seal that would make the jutsu complete. A strong light involved the air around them, along with a deafening thunder noise.
Finally, the sound and the light ceased, and Roukubi had disappeared.

Two other ninjas come closer to the deceased body of Shun. One picks up the body and the other the Stone of Thunder, the new home of Raijuu, the seventh bijuu to be captured in seven months.

In the next three months of the current year, both Orochi and Kyuubi were captured, thus making the mission of sealing all bijuus complete. There was now one last thing to do, and that was to transfer the Stones sealed bijuus to one and only place: the Altar of Divination.

However, things were not as easy as it would seem. Afraid of the powers that the altar would have after the transference, the village Kages and representatives couldn’t agree on who would be guarding it. Even if they would cooperate, none of them could really trust the others and so, suspicious invaded the heart of them and so, the Altar of Divination was left alone.

A Fake Peace

In a stormy night, strange men came to the place were the Stones were. They moved slowly and seemed to be of an advanced age by their stance. They passed by the guards, as if they couldn’t see them, and peacefully, took the stones.
A few hours latter, the village Kages and representatives found out that the stones had been stolen. The guards didn’t know how it did happen, and they didn’t remember anything. This was simply because, the genjutsu they were put on was just too strong for them to even notice. They were immediately executed for their incompetence.

With this tragic event the villages became even more suspicious of each other and each of its leaders went to their countries, now in peace. They would rebuild their once great villages, along with the help from their feudal lords who were now rebuilding their capitals as well.
After that, they would found the responsible for the missing Stones, and destroy him!

The wars left many shinobi without a village, scraps of the small villages destroyed in the days of the Rising Doom, some that even served the Akatsuki after. There are rumours that they have gathered, in hope of finding help from another homeless ninja. They are called Oni or Demons by the other villages, due to the negative influence the wars had in them. Some carry a grudge against the main villages, all of them, or just one in particularly, due to their lack of action in those early days.
Some simply hate the main villages because… there is nothing else left for them. As shinobi, they are tools of war, and hate is what they do best.

Fifty six years have passed since the beginning of the wars called “The Unholy Tragedy”, six since the last hidden village has been rebuilt. Each one of the surviving ninjas got back to their native village to help rebuilding it. Even the surviving Suna shinobi have already removed all the sand from inside the village’s walls. They seek revenge against the other villages, each one trying to find the stolen Stones.

But they are not going to find them, for the stones are kept, each one in its own corner of the world, protected by mysterious monks. Only the best may reach them… let’s only hope there isn’t someone strong enough thou.
